Let’s Make Snakes! (3)

TAL Spiral Snake

Spiral snakes are so much fun to make and watch as they twirl in the breeze. Use this activity to talk about shapes.

You will need:

  • One sheet of lightweight card and a pencil
  • A scrap of red paper
  • Scissors
  • A piece of string
  • Paint (watercolour or acrylic) and brushes
  • Bowl of water to clean the brushes
  • Marker

Step One:

Draw a spiral on the card, placing the head of the snake in the centre of the page. Use a marker to make the lines visible after painting.

Step Two:

Step Three:

Cut around the outside of the snake before continuing into the centre and the head.

Step Four:

Cut a triangle out of one end of the strip of red paper and glue the tongue to the head. Draw or paint eyes on the head.

Tie a big knot in one end of the piece of string. Cut a small hole in the head of the snake and thread the string through the hole.

Hang up and watch it twist in the breeze.
