Spiral snakes are so much fun to make and watch as they twirl in the breeze. Use this activity to talk about shapes.

You will need:
- One sheet of lightweight card and a pencil
- A scrap of red paper
- Scissors
- A piece of string
- Paint (watercolour or acrylic) and brushes
- Bowl of water to clean the brushes
- Marker

Step One:
Draw a spiral on the card, placing the head of the snake in the centre of the page. Use a marker to make the lines visible after painting.

Step Two:
Paint!

Step Three:
Cut around the outside of the snake before continuing into the centre and the head.

Step Four:
Cut a triangle out of one end of the strip of red paper and glue the tongue to the head. Draw or paint eyes on the head.
Tie a big knot in one end of the piece of string. Cut a small hole in the head of the snake and thread the string through the hole.
Hang up and watch it twist in the breeze.
